ADempiere for Plantation


ADempier for Oil Palm Plantation(Ademsawit)

The Palm oil industry in Indonesia is growing rapidly, so does the demand for ERP plantations. Adempiere whisch is already have a very complete feature and has been proven to successfully implemented in many areas of industry, but the basic features of Adempiere is not enough for all the needs of the plantation industry. It required several additional modules and features to accommodate the needs of the oil palm plantation industry better. To fulfill that requirement, we did some custom and enhance   to accomodate plantation business process requirement. We call this project as “ADemsawit”.
  1. In Procurement there are some following procedures:
    a. Purchase Requisition (with online approval)
    Record all Purchase Requisition from block/afdeling/estate and submit to head office for approval (online)
    b. Generate PO From Purchase Requisition
    Purchasing Requisition that has been approved can be generate as Purchase Order (PO), and can be grouped base on Supplier, product, etc.
    c. Request For Quotation
    Procedures to conduct the Request For Quotation from suppliers, quotation/bids can be made ​​online via the web making it more efficient. System will deliver results sorted offer prices ranging from cheap to expensive too.
    d. Purchase Order
    Purchase Order is used to record the purchases made to the Supplier, this process will produce a document that can be sent to PO suppliers in hardcopy or online via email in PDF form.
    e. Material Receipt
    Receipt Goods from one PO can be done all at once or in partial, this can facilitate some receiving scenario.
    f.  AP invoice (Vendor)

    AP Invoice Process, to record Bill from vendor as Account Payable.

  2. SALES
    Sales Process has some procedures as follow:
    a. Quotation
    Create Quotation for Customer
    b. Sales Order
    Create and Maintain Sales Order for Customer
    c. Shipment/pengiriman barang
    Shipment process, deliver goods to customer, with DO/surat jalan document.
    d. Support Multi Price list, Multi Currency, sales commision dll
    a. Support Multi Warehouse
    Supports multiple warehouse locations and support system to facilitate the storage of goods storage of goods in large quantities (eg spare parts).
    b. Support Multi UOM

    Supports all units and supporting such conversion into a dozen pcs, pack, etc.

    c. Inter Warehouse Transaction

    Material movement, between two warehouse.

    d. Physical Inventory

    Physical Inventory to maintain accuracy of physical goods quantity with system quantity.

    e. Inventory use (Conversion of goods stock to charge)
    The use of materials and conversion of inventory into account the cost.

  4. Modul Finance & Accounting 
    a. Account Payable (AP)
    Record Account Payable to supplier/vendor, schedules and payment process.
    b. Account Receivable (AR)
    Record Account Receivable from Customer, print aging report and process receipt.
    c. Bank Statement
    Manage bank from AP/AR payment and other bank transaction.
    d. General Ledger (GL)
    GL Journal to record GL Transaction for some Accounting transaction.
    e. Cash journal
    Record Cash transaction from/to cashbook.
  5. Estate Management
    a. Pre-Nursery & Nursery Management

    Manage and record the costs incurred to care for plants ranging from germination, seedling age of 1 month, 3 months and so on. Where the end result could be known how the cost that has been incurred for each seedling.
    Report: Total / partial operational costs, COGS/HPP Reports

    b. Activity Management

    Keep track of all the activities and events in the garden along with materials used and costs, the end result can be seen the total cost per hectare garden, as well as the total cost per ton harvest.
    Each garden will be created RKB / CTR (working Plans Monthly / Annual Work Plan) which will be the reference budget monthly / yearly for each block. Which, along later be compared with the actual / actual overall budget (actual). Reports: Budget per blok/division/estate , Realization per blok/division/estate  

    c. Vehicle & Machine Running Account
    Record all activities of vehicles and machines where costs are allocated to each activity in order to monitor the operational costs of vehicles and machinery / heavy equipment.
    d. Workshop Running Account
    Record all activities such as work hours, materials and services used, and the progress of work in order to monitor the operational costs of the workshop.
    a. Weight bridge
    Record incoming data from the weighing machine to be used as a data reception of fresh coconuts oil (TBS).

    b. Product Storage Reading

    Record the number of CPO stocks last storage based on the analysis of sound (sound) which will be Kilo conversion using table tank and temperature

    d. Penerimaan TBS

    Record incoming fresh coconut oil palm (TBS)

    a. Field Budget
    Field Budget is a budget based on the Annual Work Plans of the concerned block

    b. Oil-Palm Production Budget

    Production of CPO and Kernel Based on the capacity of the engine is based on the production and reception of real fresh fruit bunches and purchase.

    c. Vehicle Budget

    Forcast allocation of vehicles and heavy equipment costs include salaries, fuel, and vehicle and heavy equipment activity is concerned.

    d. Workshop Budget

    Forcast cost allocation workshops include salaries, fuel, and workshop activities are concerned.
    Payroll application payroll derived from standard plantation. Noting salary calculation, adjustment, pph21 taxes, benefits, and allowances based on company policy. Integrated with financial accounting module.

    To record the actual condition of the garden such as topography, soil type, area type, and other lai including document certification .

    Caring and building operational infrastructure such as buildings, roads, bridges, ditches, etc.

    To take care of the project activities and its progress both physically and financially progress.

Adempiere Implementation with POS


Adempiere For Retail / POS (Point Of Sales) 

In the modern retail business, ERP applications are needed to support its operations. Where in the modern retail business is usually a company has many retail outlets with a large warehouse as a storage center and control the movement of goods between warehouses with outlet, outlet to outlet and warehouse outlets. That requires an application that can integrate all the good deals at the outlet side, warehouse / inventory, procurement, planning, etc.
With such of requirement, ERP Applications is needed to integrate entire multi-outlet operations so that it can perform centralized control of head office / central office. Thus the operating conditions of each outlet, such as inventory status, progress sales / sales, cash status, etc. can be monitored and controlled so as to facilitate operations and business strategy, for example by transferring goods that are being sold in a particular outlet, or provide happy hours (discounts at certain hours) on a particular outlet at certain hours to drive sales, and so on.

Since Posterita no longer maintain in Adempiere in 2010, Adempiere not have enough qualified POS applications, the presence of which is expected to replace JavaPOS posterita, although quite tolerable and feasible for use, but still seems to be far from the expectations of the users of POS.

Some developers trying to integrate Adempiere with other applications such as Openbravo POS POS, as is done by Red1 in the following link, and SmartPOS who also is an instance of Openbravo POS which can be downloaded at the following link. Here are some reviews of the types of POS applications that can be used with Adempiere ERP:

1. Posterita
Posterita is a web-based POS applications where the use Posterita, Retail outlets simply take advantage of the web browser on the computer to be able to trade with an online connection to a central database and has good connectivity premises POS peripherals such as barcode scanner, cash drawer, etc.. Having abandoned Posterita as a developer, the development of practical applications in Adempiere POS Posterita be stalled because developers are not able to continue this project. Posterita itself from version 2.0 be paid by SAAS method, and is no longer open source, it is confirmed by Frederick Tsang (Posterita developer) to the author via email at the beginning of 2010.

2. Openbravo POS
Openbravo ERP has been known as a POS applications that are reliable, easy to use, and with an attractive design, besides openbravo also has features such as discount features, touch screen display as well as connection with a pole display, cash drawer, barcode scanner and others with performance are very good. Openbravo POS was originally designed to be integrated with Openbravo ERP. But for the current Adempiere users can integrate Adempiere with Openbravo POS, through a project initiated by RedHuan at the following link, and the application can be downloaded at the following link.

3. SmartPOS JSP
SmartPos is an instance of Openbravo POS is designed specifically to be integrated with Adempiere, which is an improved version of Openbravo POS in terms of integration with ERP Adempiere. For more information about this project can be viewed at the following link.

Implementasi ADempiere untuk bisnis Retail di Indonesia 

Oone of the companies that have already implemented Adempiere as Business Solutions Retail / POS is PT. Pembangunan Jaya Ancol meruapakan organizers largest amusement park in Indonesia. The use Adempiere for Retail POS solution specifically for the sale of merchandise goods in the Ancol tourist park.
Adempiere POS solution to this has been used in live since June 2011, meaning that up to this writing has been approximately one year using Adempiere as a solution for its retail business. One of the first reasons to use Adempiere is due to open source, where it is more affordable budget, the latter capable of integrating the entire process of sales outlets are spread across the number of tourist sites is quite a lot. Implementation process consulting is done alphamedia lasted from early 2011 until June th, 2011.

POS application used in Ancol is Posnet POS is an application which in develop in-house by Alphamedia for POS needs in Indonesia. Posnet can integrate with the POS peripherals such as POS printers, Barcode Scanner, Cash Drawer, Barcode Printer, Pole Display, etc.

Some time ago, while searching on the internet, I accidentally found a video that a user uploaded from Thailand which records usage and application Adempiere POS PT. Pembangunan Jaya Ancol, Jakarta – Indonesia.

The video lasted 1 minute 28 seconds is uploaded on youtube by user MrThammathat of Thailand during his visit in Indonesia in August 2011. Implementation of POS with Adempiere ERP seems attract his attention.

Adempiere Server Performance too slow?


After sometimes using ADempiere ERP, some users asking why their server performance is too slow. to answer this question accurately would need a more detailed check of the condition of Adempiere server , network , and so forth . Assuming the Adempiere server is in trouble and the network in good and fair condition , then there are a few things you need to do are to improve the access speed of your storage using RAID ( if not ) , when they are using RAID , you can evaluate and if possible use a method that is more efficient and faster according to your needs . Regarding RAID I have discussed in the following link :

The second , well-known ERP applications with very greedy applications to resource , memory and storage . So you should regularly monitor the condition of Adempiere server , whether memory is sufficient , whether the storage is still insufficient and so on .To view the memory on Windows Server , you can see from the properties and the windows task manager , while for Centos Linux you can do as follows :
Check Total Memory in Linux
First check physical memory available on your computer in the following way:#dmesg |grep memory

To view the memory is still available in linux you can use the following command:#free -m

Or you can see the memory usage of each application as well as the memory was still available with the following command:
If the memory in your computer is not enough , there are several things you can do , the first is to add your physical memory , and the second is to enlarge the swap file on your computer ( if the addition of physical memory can not be done )

What to do when you need to add a swap file on your Linux server ? there are 4 options you can do as follows :

1 . Creating a New File swap
2 . Creating a swap file on the existing logical volume
3 . Meng Extend existing swap file on your logical volume
4 . Creating a new swap partition

If you need a space larger swap file , create a new swap file is the fastest and easiest solution . Swap files on logical volumes in and extend the swap file on a logical volume is a more difficult step . While Constructing a new swap partition is the most difficult step , but it gives a solution that is more effective and permanent .

On this occasion I akang explain how to create a new swap file as the easiest and fastest way to enlarge your swap file space .

Creating a new file Swap

We need to specify the additional swap file space that we need. Let’s assume we need 512 Megabytes of swap space . To determine the number of blocks we need to multiply the size of the file to 1024 . So in our example is 512 x 1024 = 524288 . Then we need to run the following command :

dd if = / dev / zero of = / home / swapfile bs = 1024 count = 524 888

Position location of a file in / home / swapfile just as an example , you can put somewhere else for security reasons , and others . Then you can setup a swap file with the command

mkswap / home / swapfile

Swapfile that you created above will not enable the next time you boot the system . To make it enabled at boot time , you need to add to / etc / fstab / and the following lines into the file / etc / fstab:

/ home / swapfile swap swap defaults 0 0

Similarly, think about my review to foster problem Adempiere speed of your server , if all efforts have been made and the server is still slow , it could be it is time you buy a bigger server .

Batch Implementation in Production.

In manufacturing company usually need to provide identity to every product produced by applying the production batch number , it’s uses when a company receives a complaint from a customer of one of the products that have been sold , then the company can easily keep track of the products derived of production of when, where and the production line was done by anyone and even can be known who the suppliers of raw materials of the product. By knowing this information , it can do the repair / improvement of the production process in the future .
For this scenario Adempiere provide a Product Attributes feature , where attributes can be either Lot Control ( Control lot number / batch ) , Serial No. Control ( nomot serial control ) , Guarantee days ( longer warranty ) and others .
For example , by applying Lot control on the material receipt ( receipt of goods ) , we can identify any goods received from suppliers , and also wrote this information is recorded , for example when the goods are to be resold or to be used in the production process .
Furthermore, by applying the Serial No. Control we can identify every product that we sell come from any production , where the production line as well as the use of raw materials from which the supplier .
To be effective this method menggunakanan this process must also be accompanied by the tag / labeling for each product so that the product is not to be confused physically . And at the end of each product can be identified and can be at the track since the reception to the product on delivery to the customer .

In more complex cases, this process should also be combined with the Locator application, for example, for products that are “untagable” or can not be given a tag / label eg liquid products, flour, gas etc.. Where the labeling process can only be done at the time of packaging these products in the shipment.
In one of the authors in project implementation flour mill, raw material is stored in silos with a capacity of about 100 tons each, where each material that will be entered in a batch numbered for identification.
Each batch will occupy one locator at a time.
Every product that will be used in the production batch number will be included into the production, and will produce finished materials with the new batch number.

The batch number will be included on the packing of finished goods (Finish Goods), so it can easily be tracked in the event of a complaint or questions related to the product.

ADempiere for Telecommunication Industry


The Capabilities and Performance of Adempiere ERP has been proven in many industries in various fields of manufacturing, trading, retail, and farm plantations. But it’s not just end there, at the end of 2013  alphamedia consulting successfully implementing Adempiere ERP for one of the telecommunication company in Indonesia.

This implementation has a a lot of interesting challenge, where not only involves a lot of Customization but also because the company has a large scale of business. In this implementation.  Where almost all the challenge can be resolved well and gives us a new experience in Implementation . Of course there are still some minor things that are  still need to be addressed here and there, but in globally there is no significant problems.

The first challenge is to customized the application for  large scale Telecommunication enterprise requirements. Most of the windows and report has to be customized follow standard operating of telecommunications company. Access security based on the region and branch to maintain the security and data integration. Custom applications and custom reports certainly should be no problem considering we have repeatedly worked on a similar implementation. But the different is that the company has more than 150 branches spread across Indonesia, which is divided into several areas and regions. Thus accounting report should be able to consolidate some branches into region, some region become area and consolidate all regions / areas as a total (nationally). So with a one click we able to quickly produced a report, eg: trial balance, profit / loss, balance sheet etc. per branch, region and total / national.
Generate a report with a number of organizations of more than 150 organizations is quite resource consuming and takes a long time, so have to change many time the query method so that the report can be generated accurately and quickly.

The next problem is the number of users reaching a total of 1000 users, with concurrent users reached 400 users accessing Adempiere server at the same time from all over Indonesia. Adempiere was originally designed for the company’s SME (Small Medium Enterprise) with  100-200 users. So with that number of users would be take a deep consideration. In addition, with  concurrent users of 400 users per day, will trigger a hundreds or even thousands transactions per day . It’s should be examined by the server without the server being slow or even down.

There are several strategies that we employ to overcome these challenges, which are as follows:
1. Tuning Postgre database.
PostgreSQL database tuning is one of the main key to Adempiere server can be accessed quickly and remain responsive from all over Indonesia. Before tuning databases optimally, while reaching 100 concurrent users, to  open the windows take up five teen to thirty seconds and one report take more than ten minutes. After tuning processed many times, then finally obtained the maximum configuration and time to open the windows is 1-2 seconds and the report is 1-2 minutes although the number of users 300 to 400 users simultaneously access the same time.
2. Tunning Java
Adempiere runs on Java, so the Java configuration is also one of the key applications can run well, with the default/standard configuration after reach of 100 user accessible within a few hours of service become hangs and can not be accessed. After doing tunning several times finally obtained the optimal configuration in which the system remains smooth and stable with  300-400 users accessing the server at the same time.
3. Tunning OS
Tunning database and Java will not be optimized without tunning the Server OS. Where we use Linux Centos (Opensource OS) so it can tune up in order to work together with database tunning and java.

In addition the performance of hardware and infrastructure is also very important, the spec of hardware should be enough to handle all of the process.
